UNGIS
agreed to work on three joint initiatives and identified areas such as child on
line protection, open access to scientific information and connectivity, having
an important role to play towards 2015:
Mobile for Development: the objective of this initiative is to
identify key policy initiatives and add value to the existing programmes and
projects by facilitating synergies and joint efforts in order to maximize
coordinated action, coherence and effectiveness towards implementing successful
Mobile for Development Projects.
Open Access to Scientific knowledge: the objective of this initiative
is to promote with all agencies interested that public financed research data
across UNGIS' organizations mandates will be made accessible free of charge.
Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) reviews: the purpose
of the STIP Review is to help the Government ensure that its science, technology
and innovation programmes become an instrument for supporting relevant
components of the national development agenda.
Child on Line Protection (2009 -2011): COP has been created as an
international collaborative network for action (comprised of UN agencies and
other partners) to promote the online protection of children worldwide, based on
a multi-stakeholder approach and the belief that every organization — whether
online or mobile, educator or legislator, technical expert or industry body —
has something to contribute
